Ivanishvili’s Cartu Foundation pledges ₾30 mln reward for Georgian football team's European Championship success

Ivanishvili’s Cartu Foundation pledges ₾30 mln reward for Georgian football team's European Championship success

The Cartu Foundation, linked to Bidzina Ivanishvili, founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party and former prime minister, has pledged ₾30 million ($11mln) to the national football team should it advance from the subgroup of the European Championship. The announcement was aired by the Public Broadcaster on Tuesday.

"The Cartu Foundation will grant a reward of ₾30 million to the football team upon exiting the subgroup of the European Championship.

Additionally, following each subsequent match victory after leaving the subgroup, the foundation will provide the national team with an extra 30 million GEL," stated the foundation.

This commitment follows the historic participation of the Georgian national team in the European Championship for the first time. Shortly after this achievement, the ruling party reintroduced the controversial foreign transparency bill, perceived by Georgian citizens and international partners as a hindrance to the country's European integration.

On April 17, during the parliamentary voting on this bill, national team players sequentially released statements in support of the country's European integration.

"Georgia's future lies in Europe. The European path unites us! Onwards to Europe! Peace for Georgia," wrote Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

"Against Russia! Georgia's direction is towards Europe! P.S. No one should commend me, as I merely express what all Georgians should assert!" expressed Budu Zivzivadze.
