In the latest statement to Voice of America, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Jim O'Brien, expressed concern over the potential influence of misinformation on decision-making processes by the current Georgian Dream authorities, pointing to the controversial foreign transparency bill. 

Referring to recent remarks by the founder and the current honorary chair of the Georgian Dream ruling party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, O'Brien highlighted the importance of accurate information and dialogue with knowledgeable individuals.

"We observed the recent address by the founder of Georgian Dream with some surprise. It appears there may be a misunderstanding regarding Western sanctions, which do not currently apply to him. It is crucial for influential figures to seek reliable sources and engage with those who possess a deep understanding of Western perspectives and truths," O'Brien remarked.

O'Brien emphasized the significance of governmental decisions, particularly regarding alignment with Russia or the European Union. 

"Should the Georgian government proceed with legislation inspired by Russian interests, it would raise concerns for us," he stated. "Similarly, if there is a divergence from aspirations to join the European Union, alternative paths would necessitate a reevaluation of our engagement."
