Putin's fifth presidential inauguration set for today amid diplomatic absences

Vladimir Putin's fifth presidential inauguration is scheduled to take place in the Kremlin today. The 71-year-old will be sworn in for another term.


Representatives from the European Union have been extended invitations to the event. However, some nations including the Baltic States, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, and Canada have publicly declined participation.


Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will also be absent from the ceremony.


Reports from Radio Liberty indicate that representatives from France, Hungary, Slovakia, Greece, Cyprus, and Malta will be in attendance.


Putin secured his presidency for another six years with 87 percent of the votes during the presidential elections held on March 15-17.
