Georgian President labels ongoing police raids as repression

In a pointed statement on X, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili condemned the ongoing police raids and arrests linked to the country’s escalating protests. Using the hashtag #RepressioninGeorgia, Zourabichvili criticized what she described as a heavy-handed response by authorities.

“Political leaders dragged by repressive forces, party headquarters raided, offices of youth protesters searched… PM calls that ‘prevention,’” the president stressed.

The president’s remarks follow a series of police actions targeting opposition figures, activist organizations, and youth groups involved in the ongoing protests demanding new parliamentary elections and reforms. The Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, had earlier dismissed claims of repression, characterizing the measures as “preventive actions” aimed at maintaining public order.
