The Georgian Defence Ministry on Thursday sent additional 100 soldiers to Borjomi municipality in central-western Georgia to combat forest fires which erupted on August 19 and have been raging since then.
The company of the 102nd battalion of the territorial reserve of the 10th Cadre Brigade of the National Guard of the National Guard of Georgia were tasked to provide assistance to more than 1,200 professionals on site to contain and extinguish the fire.
Turkey has sent three aircrafts earlier this week as part of international aid to support Georgia in extinguishing the fire.
The Georgian Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that “much was dependent” on the weather as current strong winds and difficult terrain complicated the work on the spot.
