172 WWII veterans to receive 1,000 GEL from gov’t on Victory Day

The Georgian government has decided to hand 1,000 GEL to Georgia WWII veterans on the Victory Day today, marking the victory of allied forces over Nazi Germany.
According to the government decree, the family members of the victims of the war will also receive 500 GEL.
There are 172 WWII veterans living in Georgia today, 77 of them in Tbilisi.
Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili has congratulated the veterans on the day and stated that the victory over Nazi Germany “is also a big merit of Georgians.”
“I want to congratulate our hero veterans and everyone on the day. Today is May 9 and the 77th anniversary of the victory over fascism. I would like to express my great respect to our hero veterans who took part in WWII. As you know Georgians have a great contribution to the victory. Of course, I would like to once again pay tribute to our heroes who sacrificed themselves for the better future of the world,” Garibashvili said.
The WWII veterans gathered in Kikvidze garden in Tbilisi today, where Georgian officials, politicians and ordinary citizens congratulated them on the day.
