Transparency International Georgia on Friday said 21,326 Russian companies have been registered in Georgia since the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine in February last year.

Between January-June 2023 alone, 6,539 of such companies have been registered, the organization said, noting remittances from Russia to Georgia had increased by 50 percent in the first six months of this year.

The number of Russian companies registered in Georgia during the Russia-Ukraine ongoing conflict were three times more than between 1995-2021, TI Georgia said and added 95 percent of the companies registered between 2022-2023 were individual enterprises.

Georgia has received $1.1 billion in remittances from Russia in the first six months of 2023, and the share of money transferred from Russia in total remittances hit 47.5 percent, TI Georgia noted.
