In preparation for Georgia's Independence Day events on May 26, traffic will be restricted across key areas of central Tbilisi, including Freedom Square and Rustaveli Avenue, the Tbilisi City Hall has announced.

The restrictions will apply to both private vehicles and public transportation, beginning in phases from May 21 through May 27. On May 21 (8:00 PM – midnight) and May 23 (9:00 AM – 2:00 PM), traffic will be limited around Freedom Square, Leonidze Street, Kote Afkhazi Street, and Pushkin Street.

Starting May 24 at 8:00 PM, Rustaveli Avenue will be closed from Chanturia Street to Freedom Square. Movement will be allowed only up to Baratashvili Bridge and Chanturia Street.

From 2:00 PM on May 24 to 3:00 AM on May 27, further restrictions will apply to Atoneli and Vakhtang Orbeliani Streets. Alternative routes will include Leonidze, Ingorokva, A. Chavchavadze, Griboedov, Baratashvili, and Tabukashvili Streets.

On May 26, full-day restrictions will affect Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue, Atoneli, and Vekua Streets. Specific side streets and neighborhoods such as Mtatsminda and surrounding areas will be accessible via alternate roads like Barnovi, Janashia, Gogebashvili, and Griboedov Streets.

Public transportation will also be rerouted. Buses and minibuses traveling from Merab Kostava Street toward Baratashvili Street will be redirected via Mikheil Javakhishvili Street and the right bank of the Mtkvari River. Several lines, including #316, #324, #364, #380, and others, will terminate or change routes temporarily near Amagleba and Baratashvili Streets.

Tbilisi City Hall has apologized for the inconvenience and urged citizens to plan their travel accordingly during the celebration period.
