Twenty-seven Georgian non-governmental organizations have positively evaluated the work of Carl Hartzell as EU Ambassador in Georgia and wrote him a letter of gratitude on Thursday.

They suggested that the country and the civil society “always felt support” from the EU and from the Ambassador personally.

“You have done everything for the European future of Georgia. During your stay in Georgia you treated Georgian culture with the greatest respect and awe. We will always remember this respect and appreciation,” said the letter.

The NGOs praised the Ambassador’s work to help Georgian political parties end a six-month political standoff after the 2020 parliamentary elections and sign the EU-mediated agreement.

The ruling Georgian Dream party officials suggested yesterday that Hartzell had played a “negative role” in the EU-Georgia relations.
