3 arrested for purchase, storage of radioactive substances, attempting to sell it for $1.2mln

Three persons were arrested on Tuesday for illegal purchase and storage of radioactive substances and attempting to sell it for 1.2 million USD, the Georgian State Security Service said on Thursday. 

The agency said that a group of individuals  in the city of Tbilisi and Sagarejo municipality illegally kept radioactive substances dangerous to  human health at their residential addresses.

“The members of the criminal group, according to the developed plan, actively searched for the buyer, maintained the conspiracy by systematically changing the place of storage of the radioactive substances, and finally tried to sell the said substances for 1.2 million USD when they were arrested”, SSS said. 

The crime is punishable by five to 10 years in prison.
