30 years have passed since the referendum on the restoration of Georgia’s independence

March 31 is the day of the referendum on the restoration of Georgia's independence.
In a referendum held on March 31, 1991, during the times of Georgia's first president, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, the vast majority of voters answered in the affirmative: "Do you agree with the restoration of Georgia's state independence on the basis of the May 26, 1918 Act?"
The results of the referendum became the basis for the declaration of state independence of Georgia.
The population of the former South Ossetian region and the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia also took part in the referendum. The people of Georgia expressed their choice and out of 3,672,403 voters, 3,295,493 voters voted for the restoration of Georgia's state independence on the basis of the Georgian Independence Act of May 26, 1918.
The Act of Independence of Georgia was adopted at the session of the Supreme Council on April 9.
