35,028 Russian citizens have crossed into Georgia between February 24 and March 20, since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, the Georgian Interior Ministry has confirmed.
Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri said in parliament on March 17 that between February 24 to March 17, 2022, 30,439 Russian citizens entered Georgia, while 17,801 of them left the country shortly after.
Thus, per the minister, 12,638 Russian citizens remained in Georgia at that time.
Part of Georgians have urged the government to impose visa restrictions for Russian citizens as ‘majority of them have escaped the sanctions imposed on their country for its aggression in Ukraine.”
Georgia has a visa free regime with Russia, while the latter demands visas from Georgian citizens.
