A Georgian court has found seven defendants, including physician Giorgi Chakhunashvili, guilty in the so-called October 4 case and handed down prison sentences ranging from three to five years.
Chakhunashvili, along with David Zhgenti, Konstantine Kokaia, Kakhaber Mzhavanadze, Zakro Albutashvili and David Sturua were each sentenced to five years in prison.
Ia Darakhvelidze received a three-year prison sentence.
Earlier Chakhunashvili and Darakhvelidze were released on bail. The court ruled that their prison terms will be calculated from the date of their initial detention, and the bail amounts posted on their behalf will be returned.
Chakhunashvili was taken into custody in the courtroom immediately after the verdict was announced.
The October 4 case stems from events that unfolded near the Presidential Palace (Orbeliani Palace) in Tbilisi following a large anti-government rally held on the day of Georgia's local elections in October 2025. Prosecutors alleged that participants attempted to seize or blockade a strategically important state facility and took part in group violence, while defendants denied wrongdoing and argued they were exercising their right to peaceful protest.
