Five individuals have been arrested in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi on charges of group theft involving 43 vehicles, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Saturday.

The Ministry said the suspects - aged between 16 and 21, including one previously convicted and currently on probation - were detained following a series of investigative and operational measures carried out by officers from the Old Tbilisi and Didube-Chughureti police units.

Investigators say the group allegedly damaged car windows late at night across Old Tbilisi, Vake-Saburtalo and Didube-Chughureti districts throughout October, stealing personal belongings, electronic devices and cash from inside the vehicles.

During searches of the suspects’ residences, police recovered a portion of the stolen items as evidence.

The detainees face up to seven years in prison if convicted.
