This virus has mutations that allow it to evade the body's immune system. Olga Golubovskaya, a leading Kiev infectious disease specialist, a freelance specialist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, announced this on her Facebook page.

"Everyone relaxed, but still a little early. The highly infectious Brazilian strain of the coronavirus, Brazil P1, has been discovered for the first time in the United States. Let me remind you that there is no clear evidence yet that these strains (British and Brazilian) cause more severe forms of the disease, but P1 has mutations that allow it to evade from the body's immune system. This means that the currently available vaccines may not work against it, in addition, people may also be re-infected and sick with COVID-19," – Golubovskaya said.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that the Brazilian variant is responsible for a sharp increase in the number of cases in and around Manaus, the largest city in the Amazon region.

"Yesterday, for some reason, we discussed the words of a WHO expert, who said that vaccination will not prevent the spread of the virus and has more individual significance. Although I have already spoken about this in my interviews for a long time," – Golubovskaya summed up.
