Laboratory Elisabeth Pharmacon in the Czech city of Brno has discovered a previously undescribed new mutation of the coronavirus.
This is reported by the Novinky edition with reference to the director of the laboratory, Omar Sheri.
This is a mutation of the so-called spike protein. It is a characteristic protein found on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The current vaccines are aimed at him.
According to experts, the available coronavirus vaccines also work against the new strain.
“Fortunately, the mutation is in a position that should not interfere with the binding of antibodies or cellular receptors,” Sheri said.
