Large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances have been seized in Georgia’s Adjara region, with citizens of Kazakhstan, Armenia and Germany detained in connection with the case.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Saturday that police officers arrested three individuals — citizens of Kazakhstan, Armenia and Germany — at different times on charges of illegal acquisition, storage and facilitation of the sale of especially large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Patrol police officers stopped the suspects in Batumi and Kobuleti for inspection. As a result of searches of their persons, vehicles and temporary residences, law enforcement officers seized especially large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances as evidence.

The seized items include dozens of packages prepared for sale containing methadone, heroin, alpha-PVP, buprenorphine and pregabalin. Police also confiscated materials used for packaging narcotic substances.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment, the Ministry said.
