Nine arrested in western Georgia on major drug trafficking charges

Officers from the Adjara and Guria police departments of Georgia’s Interior Ministry have arrested nine people on charges linked to the illegal purchase, possession and attempted storage of particularly large quantities of narcotics, as well as facilitating their distribution.
Those detained include both Georgian citizens and foreign nationals.
Police said searches of the suspects, their homes and vehicles in the Adjara region led to the seizure of large quantities of various drugs, including 140 packages of methadone, mephedrone and alpha-PVP.
Law enforcement officers also confiscated materials allegedly used for packaging narcotics.
The offences are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
