Police in Georgia’s Adjara region have arrested three people on charges linked to the illegal purchase, possession and distribution of particularly large quantities of narcotics, the Interior Ministry on Thursday said.

Officers from the Adjara Police Department carried out the arrests during separate operations conducted at different times.

Law enforcement officers searched the suspects and their temporary residences, seizing what the ministry described as especially large quantities of illegal drugs from multiple locations.

The substances confiscated included mephedrone and methadone, according to the statement.

The offences are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
