Police in Georgia’s Adjara region in western Georgia have detained three citizens of Turkey on suspicion of coercion, violence and the unlawful appropriation of documents, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
Those detained are individuals born in 2006 and 2004, as well as a third suspect born in 2002 who has a previous conviction. All three were arrested by officers of the Batumi City Police Directorate.
The suspects allegedly targeted a Turkish citizen born in 2007 in Batumi, deceiving the victim and taking a mobile phone and identity document against the victim’s will. Police said the suspects then used threats and physical violence to force the victim to open a bank account for their benefit and restricted the victim’s ability to leave the residence independently.
The Interior Ministry said police launched immediate investigative measures after receiving information about the alleged crime and detained the three individuals as suspects.
