US Embassy, diplomats condemn “targeting of individuals” exercising fundamental rights in Georgia

Representatives of the US Embassy and members of the diplomatic corps attended court hearings involving Georgian citizens who were reportedly subjected to violence, including beatings, allegedly at the hands of law enforcement during arrest and detention amid ongoing protests against halted EU integration.

The Embassy expressed concern over the treatment of these individuals, emphasizing that the targeting of people exercising their fundamental rights and freedoms of expression “is a direct threat to justice, democracy, and the rule of law in Georgia”.
