The Ahali party, Girchi-More Freedom, and Droa opposition on Tuesday announced the formation of a single electoral entity aiming to unify opposition votes and work towards a “better future for Georgia” ahead of the October general elections.

In press comments, the party leaders emphasized their commitment to “returning the country to the European path of development and overcoming the challenges posed by the Georgian Dream authorities”.

Nika Melia, co-chairman of Ahali, emphasized the responsibility of politicians to respond to the public’s desire for a return to European values and development. He stressed that this year’s election was crucial for ensuring that opposition votes were not fragmented, which could lead to the loss of critical support needed for change.

Zurab Japaridze, leader of Girchi-More Freedom, expressed confidence that the new alliance could overcome obstacles that had hindered previous generations. He highlighted the “historical importance” of the October 26 election, viewing it as an opportunity to remove the existing “Russian-influenced regime”. Japaridze called for the mobilization of Georgian citizens both domestically and abroad to ensure a “decisive victory” at the polls.

Elene Khoshtaria, leader of Droa, reflected on the resilience of Georgian society, which she said had demonstrated its commitment to national survival and independence. She called on the political spectrum to match this unity and determination. Khoshtaria emphasized the responsibility of the opposition to offer a coherent and unified choice to voters “who have tirelessly worked” for the country’s success.

The alliance’s strategy, as said, was centered around non-aggression and unity, with Khoshtaria pledging to avoid conflicts with other opposition parties. She underscored the importance of focusing on the work ahead rather than engaging in infighting, signaling a commitment to a collaborative approach.
