Kazakhstan’s national carrier Air Astana has launched a new direct flight route connecting the western Kazakh city of Atyrau with Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi. The inaugural flight, operated by an Airbus A320, landed at Tbilisi International Airport on Tuesday, carrying 125 passengers.

This marks the first time Atyrau has been linked directly with Tbilisi by air. The route will operate three times per week - on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays - throughout the summer navigation season.

Located on the shores of the Caspian Sea, Atyrau is one of Kazakhstan’s key industrial hubs and boasts a rich cultural heritage. Atyrau International Airport, situated just 8 kilometres from the city centre, serves both domestic and international destinations, including several European cities.

In addition to the new Atyrau route, Air Astana has expanded its flight programme between Kazakhstan and Georgia. The airline will operate four weekly flights to Astana and ten weekly flights to Almaty during the 2025 summer season. Furthermore, five weekly flights from Almaty to Georgia’s Black Sea resort city of Batumi are also scheduled.
