Elisashvili on Tuesday said the handcuffs left bruises and that police “seemed pleased” by his pain

Opposition politician Aleko Elisashvili claimed in court that he suffered injuries during his arrest, saying he was kept in handcuffs for four hours.

Elisashvili on Tuesday said the handcuffs left bruises and that police “seemed pleased” by his pain. He added that when he previously informed a judge about being a victim of torture, no action was taken.

He was arrested on November 29, 2025, and is under investigation for attempting a terrorist act. Authorities allege he tried to set fire to the Tbilisi City Court administration building, assaulted court officers, resisted arrest, and attempted to seize a weapon. If convicted, he could face 10 to 15 years in prison.
