Fourteen officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were injured during Saturday’s protest in the Georgian capital, with one reported to be in serious condition, Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze said on Saturday.

He added demonstrators attempted to storm the presidential residence on Atoneli Street.

“Protest organisers damaged the barriers surrounding the presidential palace and tried to break into the building. Acts of violence were recorded,” he stated.

Darakhvelidze added that police officers sustained various injuries after protesters hurled objects at them.

“At this stage, according to available data, 14 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been injured. Among them, one officer is in serious condition due to injuries received. We will periodically update the public with further information,” Darakhvelidze noted.

The Deputy Minister stressed that law enforcement remains mobilised to ensure order and prevent further escalation.
