Tbilisi City Hall has announced that traffic will be restricted on several streets on Wednesday due to the traditional Alilo Christmas procession.

The procession will begin at 2:00 PM from the First Republic Square and continue until 4:00 PM, during which vehicles will be redirected via alternative routes.

According to the municipality:

  • Vehicles approaching Merab Kostava Street from Revaz Tabukashvili Street will be diverted via Rustaveli Avenue instead of the First Republic Square.

  • Access to Giorgi Akhvlediani and Leo Kiacheli Streets from Merab Kostava Street will be possible via Vashlovani and Ia Ekaladze Streets.

  • Vehicles traveling from the First Republic Square toward Freedom Square can use Giorgi Leonidze, Pavle Ingorokva, Aleksandre Chavchavadze, Griboedov, Nikoloz Baratashvili, and Revaz Tabukashvili Streets.

From around 3:00 PM, traffic will be completely blocked at Freedom Square for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, vehicles will be allowed to move only via the ramp near the Nikoloz Baratashvili Bridge and the section connecting Rustaveli Avenue to Giorgi Chanturia Street.

The procession will continue toward the Holy Trinity Cathedral, with staged road closures at Baratashvili Bridge, Nikoloz Baratashvili Uphill, and Avlabari Square. Traffic will be rerouted along the right and left banks of the Mtkvari River and through surrounding streets depending on the direction of travel.

Public transport routes will also be temporarily adjusted. Vehicles traveling from the First Republic Square to Rustaveli Avenue will detour via Mikheil Javakhishvili Street and the right bank of the Mtkvari River, connecting to Baratashvili Street.

Authorities advise drivers to plan alternate routes and expect delays throughout the city during the procession.
