Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Monday that stability and security in the South Caucasus largely depended on the close relations between Baku and Moscow. His remarks came after an extended meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Baku.

During the visit, Putin held direct talks with both the President and the Government of Azerbaijan. According to official reports, several agreements were signed, covering economic, trade, and educational cooperation.

Aliyev noted that regional security issues were thoroughly discussed in a closed-format meeting with Putin. “Since September last year, the region has witnessed a significant shift. Azerbaijan has fully restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This new reality paves the way for sustainable and long-term peace in the South Caucasus,” Aliyev said.
