Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s office on Monday published a letter sent by Georgian President to the former on Friday over his election win, after the Georgian Dream Government officials accused Salome Zourabichvili of “damaging ties” with Baku through “not congratulating” Aliyev on his fifth victory in the presidential race on February 7.

In the official letter, Zourabichvili says she extends her “heartfelt congratulations on your re-election as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. I sincerely wish you success and victory in your continuous endeavors dedicated to the well-being of your nation and its citizens”.

She also says “I am confident that through our collaborative efforts, we will elevate the neighborly and fraternal relations, as well as the strategic partnership between our two nations, to unprecedented levels. This will undoubtedly bolster the roles of both Georgia and Azerbaijan in fostering regional stability and progress”.

“Your Excellency, I reiterate my profound respect and extend my best wishes for your continued success. I also extend my wishes for peace and prosperity to the friendly people of Azerbaijan”, the letter said.

Georgian Vice Prime Minister Thea Tsulukiani and Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani on Monday claimed the President had allegedly acted in accordance with the “instructions of her [foreign] patrons”, and reportedly aimed to harm “exemplary ties” with Baku through delaying her official congratulations.

The Georgian President’s office responded shortly after an official letter had been sent to Baku on February 9.
