A new survey by the Women’s Initiative Support Group says that Georgians have become more tolerant towards LGBT+ community. However, more than half believe that the LGBT+ representatives are asking for privileges and not protection of rights, while almost 75% deny them the right to start a family.
The survey reads that more than half of the population, 53%, say that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people should be prohibited by law from gathering and expressing their opinions.
One of the authors of the study, Eka Agdgomelashvili, says that the result “shows progress,” as six years ago the figure stood at 78%.
The aim of the study was to measure people’s attitudes towards the LGBT+ community members and their rights.
A total of 1600 people were interviewed. Every fifth respondent believed that the rights of the community are not properly protected.
