EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell said the European Union did not recognise the so-called presidential elections held in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region on Sunday.

“The European Union does not recognise the constitutional and legal framework in which the so-called presidential elections are taking place in the Georgian breakaway region of South Ossetia today,” he said.

Hartzell pledged to continue supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity ‘within its internationally recognised borders.’
