Laura Linderman, a representative of the American Atlantic Council, on Thursday announced at an international conference that the United States was expected to review its relations with Georgia, potentially leading to a complete cessation of funding.

“We will be closely monitoring the elections and the entire election period to assess the fairness and freedom of the process. I hope to see the international missions of OSCE-ODIHR, NDI, and IRI in Georgia observing the elections. A law called the Megobari Act (Friend Act) is currently under consideration in Congress. The Americans will observe the elections and decide on actions related to this law based on the ongoing processes,” said Linderman.

She added, “America has invested significantly in Georgia’s development across various sectors. Halting funding will have a substantial impact on numerous programs in the country.”

The LEADxSUMMIT 2024 international conference is currently taking place in Tbilisi, where discussions focus on Georgia’s European integration, upcoming elections, and the actions of the Georgian Dream party.
