A lawyer at the American law firm Akerman on Monday met with convicted third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, in a civilian clinic of Vivamedi, where he has been undergoing treatment since May, Saakashvili’s lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze said.

He stated that the Georgian legislation did not precisely define in what cases an innate could be sent abroad for treatment.

“That is why they needed a foreign lawyer to tell the court about the practice in his country”, he said.

The lawyer stressed that foreign specialists would be involved in the study of Saakashvili’s health condition.

“As for the expert report, two experts will come today or tomorrow. At the beginning of next week, the expert work with Saakashvili will be finished. We will wait for their written documentation, which will also be in a very tight time frame. One expert, a neurologist, should come in tomorrow, “ said Khachapuridze.

Saakashvili was arrested in Tbilisi last October, after eight years in political exile.
