The adoption of the amnesty law over currently imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili will not happen, this is out of the question, Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party said on Thursday.

“None of the prisoners have made so many people torture as Saakashvili did while in office”, Kobakhidze said.

Saakashvili, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 on his clandestine return to the country.

Tbilisi city court on Monday denied granting his release or the postponement of the rest of his six-year-sentence for abuse of power while in office on medical grounds.
