Anita Demetriou, the President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, has expressed condolences over the death of Georgian Patriarch Ilia II, describing him as a historic figure whose influence extended far beyond Georgia.

In her message, Demetriou said Ilia II was not only a spiritual leader of the Georgian Orthodox Church, but also a pillar of faith, wisdom and national unity who tirelessly served peace, reconciliation and the preservation of cultural and moral values.

“The world has truly lost a historic figure, whose fatherly love and moral clarity transcended Georgia’s borders,” she said.

She added that his loss is particularly deeply felt at a time of global instability, noting that his calm and steadfast voice had been an important support for peace and international order.

Demetriou extended condolences on behalf of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, expressing solidarity with the Georgian people and noting that Ilia II’s legacy would continue to inspire future generations.
