Levan Ioseliani, the Georgian public defender, on Monday said any references to an individual’s orientation was “absolutely unacceptable”, in comments on the latest remarks by Irakli Kobakhidze, the ruling Georgian Dream party head, after students threw Russian roubles onto his head while at Tbilisi State University last week.

In his response, Kobakhidze accused the domestic, opposition-minded Formula channel of backing “several students”, who he claimed had their orientation “unclear”.

“I think these people should be put on the right track, boys should get wives, girls should get married, should have children… All their orientations, starting from politics, should be corrected, this is our task. We will do everything we can to save these young people”, Kobakhidze said.

The channel claimed the student’s move was prompted by the current Georgian Dream authorities “pro-Russian stance”.
