Doctor Anzor Melia, who is father of the head of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party Nika Melia, says that several activists of the party have been transferred to his clinic as they suffered ‘serious heart issues’.

As of now about 200 UNM activists and members, including the party head Melia, are on hunger strike at the party headquarters in the outskirts of Tbilisi, demanding the release of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili.

The party announced the move on Saakashvilli’s birthday, on December 21.

Anzor Melia says that as a heart attack has not been confirmed in any of the individuals, ‘they ran straight to the UNM office to continue their protest.’
