A total of 7,300 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Georgia’s currently Russian-occupied Abkhazia region had received medical assistance so far this year, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia announced on Friday.

The figure was announced following the 42nd session of the Commission for Individual Assistance to Displaced Persons, chaired by Minister Besik Kusidze, where funding for an additional 173 displaced individuals was approved.

Officials said the Government of Abkhazia’s Chairman, Giorgi Jinchiradze, has allocated extra resources to expand the programme, allowing even more beneficiaries to receive healthcare support by the end of the year.
