Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs says officers from the Abkhazia Autonomous Republic Police Department have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of illegally purchasing and possessing a particularly large quantity of narcotics.

The suspect, identified by his initials E.G. and born in 2002, was detained following a personal search, during which officers seized up to 100 grams of the наркотic substance methadone as evidence.

The offence carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment if the suspect is convicted.
