Officers of the Abkhazia Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have arrested a 1974-born man, identified as G.Sh., on charges of illegally purchasing, possessing, and attempting to import an especially large quantity of narcotics into Georgia.

According to the ministry, law enforcement officers discovered a large quantity of the narcotic drug Suboxone tablets during a detailed inspection of a vehicle driven by the suspect at the Sarpi Border Crossing.

Police said the drugs were concealed in a specially constructed hidden compartment inside the vehicle and were seized as evidence.

An investigation is underway under Articles 260 and 262 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
