Police in Georgia have detained a Russian citizen accused of possessing child pornography, the Interior Ministry announced on Monday.

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department’s Cybercrime Division arrested the suspect - identified only as P.P., born in 2007 - following investigative and operational activities, the MIA press office said.

Authorities allege that the individual knowingly acquired, possessed and stored pornographic material containing the image of a minor for personal use on a personal computer.

During a search of the suspect’s residence, police reportedly seized computer equipment and a mobile phone as evidence.

The Interior Ministry stated that the investigation was ongoing under Article 255, Part 3 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers the purchase and possession of child pornography and carries a potential prison sentence of five to ten years.
