Archil Beridze, a deputy chair of the ruling party faction Georgian Dream, has accused foreign actors of applying “double standards” in their approach to the country, while also criticising the domestic opposition.
Speaking at a plenary session of parliament on Tuesday, he claimed Georgian society had for years observed what he described as interference in the country’s internal affairs and attempts to maintain external influence.
Beridze argued that actions considered acceptable in other countries are treated differently when applied to Georgia, alleging a pattern of inconsistent standards. He singled out what he termed “European bureaucracy”, saying it justified certain policies domestically while criticising similar steps in Georgia.
He cited examples including debates in European countries on foreign agent legislation and ongoing economic ties between some European states and Russia, despite public support for sanctions. He also questioned criticism directed at Georgia’s economic and political decisions in this context.
Beridze further accused parts of the Georgian opposition of acting as instruments of external forces, claiming their positions shift according to political interests rather than consistent principles.
