Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of Georgia’s Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee, has criticised opponents of the country’s foreign transparency law, accusing them of spreading falsehoods and singling out US Congressman Joe Wilson as an example of alleged politically motivated lobbying.
Gorduladze dismissed claims that the law is aimed solely at hostile organisations, highlighting that the opposition United National Movement (UNM) was also included in the registry. “Since 2023, foreign-directed individuals have said only hostile groups are being registered. But the UNM is listed too - since when did it become hostile to the US?” he asked.
He went on to question Wilson’s motives, claiming the congressman’s support for Georgian opposition groups had been bought through lobbying. “Apparently, Joe Wilson can’t sleep at night thinking about Georgia. They talk about values, but it turns out values have a price. That’s the fate of agents - they’ll do everything against their country’s interest,” Gorduladze said.
