Chair of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee Archil Gorduladze has rejected claims circulating online that private tutoring was banned under Georgian law, calling them “false and misleading.”
Speaking at a committee session on Wednesday, Gorduladze said certain individuals - whom he linked to the opposition United National Movement - were deliberately spreading misinformation to confuse teachers and stir public irritation.
“Some people, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they are affiliated with the United National Movement, are trying to mislead society, particularly our highly respected teachers, by suggesting that private tutoring is prohibited or newly regulated. This is entirely untrue,” Gorduladze claimed.
He stressed that private tutoring was not regulated by Georgian legislation, meaning that teachers were fully entitled to prepare and teach any individual privately.
“There is no ban, no restriction, and no new regulation on this activity. Teachers can confidently continue their work and share their knowledge,” he added.
