Armenian parliament did not elect Pashinyan to the post of prime minister

At a special meeting on Monday, the Armenian parliament did not elect the only candidate for the post of prime minister – acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, interfax.ru reports.
The ruling My Step faction abstained from voting, the Prosperous Armenia opposition faction did not participate in the meeting, the Bright Armenia faction opposition voted against.
The voting process was initiated with the aim of dissolving parliament and holding early parliamentary elections.
In accordance with the Constitution of Armenia, in the event of the resignation of the prime minister, the parliament within seven days nominates candidates for prime minister, elections are held. If the Prime Minister is not elected, new elections are held in seven days. If the Prime Minister is not re-elected by a majority vote, the National Assembly is dissolved by law.
The second stage of voting in the Armenian parliament will take place on May 10.
After the dissolution of the parliament, the President of Armenia will officially set the date for voting in the early parliamentary elections.
The elections are expected to be held on June 20.
On April 25, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that he was resigning to hold early elections, but would continue to fulfill his duties until the early parliamentary elections.
According to the Constitution, in order to dissolve the parliament, the Armenian prime minister must resign.
