Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan has signed a law initiating the country’s accession process to the European Union, according to the official website of the head of state.

The law declares Armenia’s intention to join the “family of progressive, civilized, and developed humanity,” reinforcing the current government’s political will and determination to pursue this path.

The document highlights that EU membership will contribute to ensuring national security, modernizing the military in line with EU standards, strengthening human rights, creating new economic mechanisms, improving living standards, and addressing demographic challenges.

On March 25, the Armenian Parliament passed the draft law on launching the EU accession process with a majority vote.

To obtain EU candidate status, Armenia will be required to carry out extensive reforms and align its legislation with EU law.
