Former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1 ahead of the Georgian municipal race, has posted a letter for the head of the United National Movement opposition party Nika Melia, who was running for Tbilisi mayor in the race.

Saakashvili claims that what Melia and voters did in Tbilisi, was a ‘real miracle,’ referring to the need for the election runoff in which Melia and the ruling Georgian Dream mayoral candidate Kakha Kaladze will run on October 30.

He said that the need for runoffs in all big cities is a big victory and now the opposition must be concentrated to win the races.

“Special congratulations to your father,” Saakashvili praised Melia’s father Anzor Melia who gained more votes in Zugdidi, western Georgia, than the ruling party candidate.

“Let us unite all oppositional and just healthy forces, forget all grievances and restore democracy and freedom in our country once and for all,” Saakashvili said.

He added that he stands by the ‘opposition and the country’ and is putting his life at risk for this.
