Acting US Ambassador meets Patriarchal Locum Tenens at Georgian Patriarchate

The embassy said the meeting focused on the longstanding friendship between the two countries and the role of the Georgian Orthodox Church in the nation’s history and culture

Acting US Ambassador Alan Purcell met with Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri), the Patriarchal Locum Tenens, along with other bishops and clergy at the Georgian Patriarchate, the US Embassy in Tbilisi announced.
According to the Embassy, the meeting focused on the longstanding friendship between the two countries and the role of the Georgian Orthodox Church in the nation’s history and culture.
“Acting Ambassador Purcell met with Patriarchal Locum Tenens Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri), other hierarchs, and clergy at the Patriarchate. They discussed the friendship between our countries and the Church’s role in Georgia’s history and culture. We are proud to have contributed to the preservation of Georgia’s historic churches and artifacts nationwide,” the Embassy said in its statement.
