The United States Embassy in Georgia on Friday continued its social media campaign through posting banners against the alleged anti-Western propaganda of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, saying that “democracies do not ban the opposition.”

This message comes amid GD’s electoral promises to prosecute the United National Movement (UNM) opposition for its “crimes” committed during its time in office, should GD secure a constitutional majority of at least 113 seats in the 150-member parliament in the upcoming October general elections.

The ruling party has also accused the UNM, which formerly held power, of instigating the 2008 war with Russia, claiming it did so “under foreign instructions.”
