The United States has welcomed the historic peace agreement signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, praising it as a turning point that ends decades of conflict. In a statement, released by the US Embassy in Tbilisi, Washington said President Donald Trump brought the parties together and mediated the deal, which “opens the door to a new era of peace, trade, and prosperity” for both nations and the wider South Caucasus region.
The agreement was signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The 17-point framework document, while still largely confidential, aims to normalize relations through mutual recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as to strengthen economic cooperation.
Key elements of the accord include the establishment of a transit route via the Zangezur Corridor, a ban on the deployment of third-country troops along the shared border, and the renunciation of international claims. It also covers border demarcation, prisoner exchanges, and measures to support refugees and internally displaced persons.
US Embassy highlighted that the peace deal not only offers Armenia and Azerbaijan the chance to resolve long-standing disputes but also creates opportunities for trade agreements and economic growth benefiting the people of all three nations — Americans, Armenians, and Azerbaijanis.
