The United States Department of Defense Threat Reduction Agency has transferred a forensic triage laboratory worth 733,490 dollars to Georgia’s Interior Ministry’s Expert-Criminalistics Department.
The laboratory was provided as part of a project implemented between the two sides over the past two years, according to the ministry.
Georgia’s deputy interior minister, Shalva Tadumadze, and the head of the Expert-Criminalistics Department, Tengiz Sisauri, held meetings with senior officials from the US Department of Defense and the Threat Reduction Agency in connection with the handover.
The Interior Ministry’s press service said the Georgian side expressed gratitude to the United States for its support. Tadumadze said the new laboratory would significantly strengthen the technical and analytical capabilities of the ministry’s forensic services.
The Interior Ministry added that it maintains active cooperation with the US Department of Defense’s Threat Reduction Agency, with a number of projects having been implemented in various fields over the years with the agency’s support.
